The learning and training education system in Italy
Preschool Education (ages 0 to 6)
- Nursery Schools: For children aged 0 to 3, public and private nursery services are available.
- Kindergarten: For children aged 3 to 5, school is not mandatory, but both public and private kindergarten schools are available.
Compulsory Education System in Italy (ages 6 to 16), divided into two cycles of education:
- First Cycle of Education, compulsory, which lasts a total of 8 years:
- Elementary School: A 5-year duration, for children aged 6 to 11.
- Middle school: A 3-year duration, for children aged 11 to 14.
- Second Cycle of Education, divided into two types of educational paths:
- Highschool: A 5-year duration, for students who have successfully completed the first cycle of education. Schools include different pathways: high school, technical institutes, and vocational institutes for students aged 14 to 19.
- Three-year and four-year paths of Vocational Education and Training (IeFP), under regional responsibility, aimed at students who have successfully completed the first cycle of education.
- Higher Education offered by universities, institutions of Higher Artistic, Musical and Choreutic Education (AFAM), and Higher Technical Institutes (ITS), with various types of tertiary education programs offered by universities.
